Metropolitan New York Library Council (METRO) is uniting local professional community members that students, new grads, and transitioning professionals need to know -- topping National Library Week off with a bang!
This event features two practical, career-oriented panels (see below), as well as library vendors, hiring managers, professional organization representatives, internship managers, and library school faculty to join us to share their knowledge. You’ll leave the event with lots of resources and introductions to experienced professionals to help you start (or re-start) your library career.

Kristin Gropper: Kristina Gropper is a research manager at the Pratt Institute. In this role, she’s responsible for all aspects of donor and prospect research for the major gifts department. Before joining Pratt in April 2015, she served as prospect researcher at City Harvest for three years. She earned a master’s degree in the decorative arts from the Bard Graduate Center and a bachelor’s degree in art history from the University of Chicago. She also serves on the board of the Association of Professional Researchers for Advancement - Greater New York (APRA-GNY).
Harry Gee: Harry Gee is currently the Reference & Internship Coordinator at Newman Library, Baruch College (CUNY). He has previously held various information professional positions over the past years. Harry worked at the University of California (Irvine), Lazard, Lehman Brothers, and LexisNexis.
Matt Johnson: Matt Johnson is Principal Information Architect in the User Experience Design practice at Fidelity Investments. He has previously served in roles related to information standards, taxonomy, enterprise search, and user access management at Microsoft and EMC Corporation. Matt received his M.L.S. from Queens College (CUNY) and is the author of multiple scholarly works in the library press on subject descriptors and social minorities. He chairs the board of an LGBT community nonprofit and is a certified yoga instructor.
Michelle Brewer: Michelle Volesko Brewer is the embedded librarian and market intelligence manager at Wolters Kluwer Health, a graduate of Kean University, certified as a Teacher and School Librarian. She provides research, analysis and expert searching for Ovid and Lippincott Williams and Wilkins in support of executive strategy, publishers, Ovid and new product development. Prior to joining WK in 2010, she was director of a healthcare association library for 31 years, for health services research and evidence based medicine and founded, directed a multi-state library, consortial licensing group with The Health Sciences Library Association of N.J. She works extensively within the medical and healthcare industry, with all types of libraries. She has been elected to leadership positions on all levels, appointed to numerous committees, boards and advisory groups including MLA, NLM and the NJ State Library. She is a past recipient of the N.J. Health Sciences Librarian of the Year Award; MLA HLS Professional Recognition Award for Publications & Research award, and Wolters Kluwer’s "Medical Research 2013 Employee Values Award." A published author, with an ORCID ID. She lives in NJ with her husband Eric and Maine Coon cat, Topper.
